Why your need to buy your Travel Insurance ? Read More
"When you set off on a long-awaited holiday, the last thing on your mind is that something may go wrong. And yet, according to www.smartraveller.gov.au, the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade handles more than 20,000 cases a year involving Australians in difficulty overseas around 1500 of them hospitalised, evacuated for medical purposes or worse. Not fun. Even less so, when you consider that daily hospitalisation costs in south-east Asia regularly exceed $800 or that medical evacuation from the United States can cost around $75,000 to $95,000. Worse still, if you do not have travel insurance, you are personally liable for those costs! That’s one expensive holiday. Of course, travel insurance is not just about doom and gloom illness scenarios consider what you’d do (and what it might cost) if your luggage was lost, you were pocket-picked of your holiday savings or your hotel room rifled for valuables. Despite all this, around 30 percent of Australian travellers do not take out travel insurance. “Of the 70 percent that do, most are looking for policies to cover medical emergencies “A lower percentage looks at insurance for their valuables and rental vehicle excess.” Even if you’re only travelling to the Gold Coast to do the theme parks, it’s worth looking at insurance. “Admittedly you won’t get into as much financial trouble as you might with an overseas emergency as your Medicare cover is valid,” says Eddie. “But baggage, rental car excess and personal liability are still concerns.”[Hide]
